Opportunities For Parents

Parent involvement is an essential component to the success of New Vista Middle School and its students. To assure maximum academic growth of any student, parents must be involved! We have many ways parents can be informed and involved in their son's or daughter's education. These parent opportunities include:

  • Involvement in New Vista's PTO program,
  • Monitoring your son's or daughter's grades and academic progress though the district's PowerSchool Internet website,
  • Checking dates, announcements, and events through the NVMS website,

As with the students, it is the administration's hope that parents will make use of these programs and assist New Vista & your son or daughter improve and grow.

Habits of Student Success

With any job, career, or endeavor having the correct set of habits, tools, and skills can make a difference between producing an excellent product and producing a poor product. New Vista students, too, need good essential habits, tools, and skills to produce the best grades possible. Parents and students need to continue to refine and improve on the following.

  • Be on time to school and to class. A student cannot learn if he or she is not in class. Parents, please be sure students arrive at school by 8:20 am. And students, you need to get to each of classes on time.
  • Have all the supplies you need. Students need to be organized and have all the materials needed for the day before leaving for school. Sudent responsibility forms, pencils, pens, paper, notes, and homework should be sorted and accessed easily. Parents should contact the Administration Office if there are any financial problems preventing you from getting necessary supplies for your son or daughter.
  • Have your homework completed to the best of your ability. Teachers give homework for skills practice and reinforcement. Students need to complete their homework as best they can and let their teachers know if they had problems.

Parents, please support your student and his or her teachers by setting aside time and finding space for your son or daughter to do nightly homework. If you find your child is having great difficulty and/or staying up late to complete homework, please contact the appropriate teachers with your concerns.

It is the goal of every teacher and every administrator that every student at New Vista grow academically to their highest level and earn the highest grades possible. Mastering the three simple habits, tools, and skills mentioned above will go along way towards meeting this goal.

Have a great year!
